It’s that time of year again. Summer break has finally reached its end, and the new school year has officially kicked off. On August 13, students arrived back on campus where they reunited with friends and classmates, navigated their new schedules, and began a new chapter in their high school journey. With the variety of classes, electives, and extracurriculars to choose from, it’s safe to assume that students had different experiences on their first day and have different plans for the year.
“My first day was fun. I got to see all my friends after the summer,” said, junior, Anushree Dindukurthi. She is taking five Advanced Placement classes, health, and is a part of choir. In terms of her plans for the year, Dinukurthi has many clubs and organizations in mind to participate in, such as HOSA, DECA, and Model UN.
“My first day of school was pretty good,” said, sophomore, Aashritha Gowrishankar. “I went to all my classes. I liked my teachers. The classes aren’t too hard, but I believe in the middle of the school year, it will get harder.” Gowrishankar’s classes include AP pre-calculus, AP seminar, and advanced chemistry. She is also in health science and AP biology, as she shared that she has dreams of becoming a doctor in the future.
For, sophomore, Aliyana Wilson, the first day of school felt like any other day. “It felt like a normal school day. It’s like I came back from a weekend,” she said. Wilson’s schedule includes advanced geometry, advanced English, dance, choir, and floral design. She is excited to get through the school year and end on a strong note.
There are many other things students are looking forward to this year. “Something I’m looking forward to is the pep rallies, the football games, and everything. I can’t wait for winter just to see the holiday spirit in the school,” said Dindukurthi. Outside of school, she will be tutoring Afghan refugees in math, science, and English as a part of her Sunday school’s program.
On the other hand, Gowrishankar is focused on her academic achievement this year as she hopes to maintain good grades and a high GPA. Nevertheless, she is still hoping to have a lot of fun in all her classes.
With a special year ahead of her, senior, Sahasra Swargam is especially looking forward to all the senior events coming up. “As a senior, I’m really looking forward to all the senior activities and all the fun things I can do with my friends,” she said. After three years, she has definitely come a long way. Reflecting on her growth throughout her high school years, she is proud of who she has become and how she has changed. “I feel like I have become more social. I feel like I really put myself out there sometimes, and I’m more outgoing now.”
With a positive attitude and many things to look forward to, these students are guaranteed to make this another great year!
